Sophia Course Management

Having been involved as both students and employees in the University of Maine System, we are all too aware of the shortcomings of modern course management and E-Learning systems. Sophia is in a league of its own; elegantly solving the problems that faculty and students have been forced to live with. Sophia turns online courses into rich interactive experiences that engage users at all levels.

What Sophia Does Different:

Accessibility

Good software meets the requirements of most users. Great software satisfies the needs of everybody. Sophia stands alone by meeting federal accessibility laws* and exceeding the Web Accessibility Initiative standards. Public organizations that use Webct, BlackBoard, FirstClass, and many other software suites are in violation of the law and risk high-cost class action lawsuits and loss of funding. *Section 508 (29 U.S.C. ‘ 794d)

Digital Media

Streaming digital content to your students is simple with Sophia. Our system does the technical work for you: upload and stream any form of media to your students, without requiring technical knowledge or computer savvy. Your courses are only a few simple clicks away from automatic flash streaming and podcasting.

Parental Involvement

For our users in primary and secondary education, we allow parents to directly communicate with the teacher and view their students progress via a customized parental interface. Never “lose” a progress report in the mail again.

Interoperability

With our forward thinking development methods, Sophia can seamlessly supplement your current software solutions. Integration with both Webct and FirstClass allows you to gradually transition to a better solution without radically changing your teaching methods. Utilizing the power of TurnItIn.com, Sophia automatically warns you of academic dishonesty.

Syndication

Sophia stays ahead of the curve by automatically generating podcasts, rss feeds, and subscribable calendars for your courses. Your automated system notifies students when new course material is added, or content is updated.

Scalability

From the lone high school teacher to the thriving university, Sophia has a solution for your program. Being hosted software with a modularized design and a nominal price point, Sophia is accessible to organizations of any size.

The Sophia Course Management System is currently in development, and will be released to the public soon. To find out more information on our software and technologies, contact us or email Sky directly via sky [at] marginleft [dot] com.

HeatSafe

Consumer Energy Research Corporation Logo

The Heat-Safe Innovation

Heat-Safe is a remote sensing device that supplements the current gauge found on the majority of home heating oil tanks and provides oil retailers with notification of low-oil, and low-temperature alarms.

Industry Implications

This major breakthrough in the supply chain for home heating oil will enable retailers to significantly decrease their cost of delivering oil by essentially eliminating:

  • Time involved in estimating consumption
  • Errors in “degree-day” estimation
  • Risk of “out-of-oil” and “freeze-up” liabilities

Market Potential

The market for the Heat-Safe will be truly global. While oil heat use in America is limited to New England and Mid-Atlantic states, it is the primary heating source for over 8.1 million households in the United States alone. 78% of those homes are in the Northeastern United States, immediately accessible to sales efforts of the Consumer Energy Research Corporation.

Partnerships

CERC has partnered with several leaders in the retail heating oil, engineering design, and manufacturing industries to bring the Heat-Safe to market. The anticipated release date is currently in the first quarter of 2009.
